BACKGROUND
Kijik’s decision to establish KAS was motivated by the mineral exploration activity being undertaken near the village of Nondalton and ultimately the expectation of future mine development.  The mine developers, the Pebble Limited Partnership (PLP), recognize the villages nearby the Pebble claim as “project stakeholders” and sought to build business relations with the respective village corporations.  To capitalize on this opportunity, the various village corporations established businesses essential to mineral exploration such as camp support services, fuel supply, resource inventory and data gathering to support environmental permitting and other relevant services. Due to the remote location of the Pebble claim and the lack of roads, exploration operations require intense air support.  The exploration area and actual drill sites are only accessible by helicopter and such aircraft are used daily for the transport of all equipment, personnel, fuel and maintenance supplies.  Recognizing this demand for air support, Kijik established KAS and, under a teaming relationship with a qualified helicopter operator, advanced a competitive proposal to PLP for helicopter support services.  KAS’ first contract award was May 2008.
CURRENT OPERATIONS
Kijik Aviation Services LLC (KAS), under a teaming relationship with TEMSCO Helicopters, Inc. (THI), provides a comprehensive array of helicopter air transportation services in support of natural resource development, heavy construction and mineral exploration.  The KAS/TEMSCO relationship was established in April of 2012 whereby both entities successfully secured a contract with the Pebble Limited Partnership to provide helicopter air support for a mineral exploration program, in a remote Alaska location, for ostensibly one of the largest copper mines in the world.
